The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate Deputy Jacob LeBouef on his graduation from the 179th class of the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA). Deputy LeBouef was joined in celebrating this accomplishment by Sheriff Eddie Langlinais , Enforcement Division Captain Glenn Landry, and Lieutenant Marcus Hebert. Deputy LeBouef served as the class chaplain and led both the invocation and the closing prayer at today's graduation. His leadership and commitment to faith were evident as he helped guide his classmates through this important milestone. In closing, Deputy LeBouef offered a prayer that we proudly share for all law enforcement officers: "Lord, We ask for your protection as we take this next step in our careers as law enforcement officers. Guide us through the many trials that we will face as we encounter the evil and heartbreak that will undoubtedly be a major part of this profession. Also, let us never fail to see the good in the people that we encounter on a daily basis. The poor and sick that are seeking a little relief, the elderly that are lonely and may just want someone to talk to, and the child who is growing up in a broken home and needs someone positive to look up to. Help us to see You in every person that we encounter and to never forget our duty to serve those made in Your image. As we face the dangers of this world, help us to know that You are beside us always. We ask this in Your name. Amen." We are proud of Deputy LeBouef’s dedication, hard work, and service to the citizens of Vermilion Parish. Please join us in congratulating him on this outstanding achievement.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is grateful to VPSO Corporal Brian Baumgardner and his wife for their continued dedication to Vermilion Parish through the Sudden Impact Louisiana and DestinationZeroDeaths programs. Following the tragic loss of their daughter, Ramsie Kate, they have chosen to honor her memory by educating Vermilion Parish youth about the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. By sharing their story, they are making a meaningful impact and encouraging safer decisions behind the wheel. Sheriff Eddie Langlinais would like to remind drivers to designate sober drivers when they choose to consume alcoholic beverages. One life lost to drinking and driving is too many.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is proud to participate in Love the Boot Week, Louisiana’s largest statewide litter removal and beautification effort. Organized by Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Love the Boot Week brings together communities, businesses, and volunteers across the state each year to clean up roadways, waterways, and public spaces. This initiative plays an important role in preserving the natural beauty of Louisiana and promoting pride in our communities. The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is grateful to have received a beautification grant this past year through the Office of Billy Nungesser Lt. Governor of Louisiana, which allows us to conduct additional litter cleanup efforts throughout Vermilion Parish, to expand our impact and keep our parish clean. Throughout the week, VPSO deputies, along with trusty inmates from the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center, will be out across the parish picking up litter and trash. These efforts help improve the appearance of our roadways and contribute to a safer, cleaner environment for everyone. We encourage all residents to take part in Love the Boot Week in any way they can. Visit www.lovetheboot.org for volunteer opportunities. Together, we can make a difference and continue to keep Vermilion Parish a place we are proud to call home.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 14, 2026 Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office to Participate in Statewide Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign Vermilion Parish, LA — The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office will participate in a statewide seat belt enforcement campaign aimed at educating pickup truck drivers and their passengers about the importance of buckling up. The campaign will run from April 18 through April 25 and is being conducted in conjunction with a grant received from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC). According to LHSC, pickup trucks are twice as likely to roll over in a crash, and drivers and passengers in pickups are less likely to wear their seat belts. A Louisiana Seat Belt Observation Survey has shown that pickup occupants wear their seat belts less frequently than occupants of other types of vehicles. With the goal of reducing injuries and unrestrained fatalities on our roadways, Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputies will conduct high-visibility enforcement to raise awareness about the importance of seat belt usage and compliance with Louisiana law. Deputies will join law enforcement agencies across the state in focusing enforcement efforts on unrestrained drivers and passengers, particularly those traveling in pickup trucks. “Wearing your seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself in a crash,” said Sheriff Eddie Langlinais. “We want to remind everyone in our parish that buckling up every trip, every time, can make the difference between life and death.” Sheriff Langlinais and the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office encourage all motorists and passengers to wear their seat belts at all times to help keep Vermilion Parish roadways safe for all who travel our roadways. For any questions regarding this campaign or other Sheriff’s Office programs and services, citizens are encouraged to contact Public Information Officer Ashley Adams by email at ashleya@vermilionsheriff.gov.

Today, Sheriff Eddie Langlinais attended the ribbon cutting for the reopening of the historic Richard Sale Barn just outside the Abbeville city limits. Sheriff Langlinais joined community leaders and supporters to celebrate the restoration of this historic landmark. Originally built in 1937 as the Abbeville Commission Company, the barn once served as a cattle auction house along the Vermilion River. Following recent renovations, the dedication of the June and Ernest Atchetee Theater marks an exciting new chapter for this historic venue. Sheriff Langlinais would also like to extend a warm welcome to Vermilion Parish to those involved in bringing this special place back to life.

Please remember to: -Lock your vehicle doors at all times and remove keys from your vehicle, even when parked at home. -Remove valuables such as wallets, firearms, electronics, and cash from your vehicle. -Stay aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity you see.
