Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is once again inviting the public to take part in the Citizen’s Academy in the Spring of 2025 where they will get a firsthand look at Sheriff’s Office operations.

The Citizen’s Academy will meet weekly over five weeks and will culminate with a graduation event with hands-on activities. The program will take participants through the process of becoming a Deputy Sheriff and explore many facets of VPSO operations.

Participants will finish the program by participating in a “range day” before being presented with a certificate of completion from Sheriff Eddie Langlinais and Chief Deputy Blair Dore, signifying their graduation from the Vermilion Parish Citizen’s Academy.

The program is free and open to residents of Vermilion Parish 18 and older. Prospective members must pass a basic background check prior to enrollment and possess and supply a copy of their current Louisiana driver’s license or Louisiana identification card reflecting their current address. Of applicants who pass the background check, 20 will be chosen to participate in order of when applications are received.

The Spring 2025 Citizen’s Academy will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm beginning on April 2nd and will culminate in one final session and participant graduation on Saturday, May 3rd. We will contact applicants on a first come first served basis with admissions approvals and attendance offers.

To apply, please download and fill out the application. Completed applications should be emailed to programs@VermilionSheriff.gov for submission. A Sheriff’s Office representative will contact applicants upon receiving a successful background check and inform them of admission into the Citizen’s Academy. The deadline to apply is February 28th.
